A Letter from the Board President

Dear Parents, Alumni Students, and Families of MCHS:

I want to take a moment to reflect on what we, together, accomplished in this 51st school year of Montessori Children’s House and School. While the year began with unique challenges from day to day for all of us, we persevered together through the second year of the pandemic. Ms. Christa continued ensuring the delicate balancing of the safety of our families and staff while prioritizing in-person learning for the benefit of our students. Despite even more complications in our lives, our families and staff kept their spirits high to enable another glorious year of exploration and growth for our students.

The Board accomplished a great deal this year as well. Using the guidance from the Centers for Nonprofit Management, we have begun work in strengthening the structure of our board by establishing a new space for advisory members. The first steps taken included the assembly of our Governance Committee. In addition, we’ve established our Next50 Committee and have welcomed four new board members.

The 2021-2022 school year ended on a very bright note with the return of one of our most beloved MCHS traditions, the International Festival! It was a delight to finally be together again for the first full school, in-person festival in over two years. Families shared food with the traditional international pot-luck meal, and there were performances by MCHS students, the Greek Orthodox Youth of America dance troupe, and staff member Ms. Keren Villanueva.

We also were able to come together like old times for our annual spring fundraiser, the MCHS Cosmic Gala and Auction. This year’s auction party at Barcadia-Dallas was hosted by the MCHS Parents Club and celebrated and attended by our parents, alum families, and staff.

In this full year of supporting MCHS and the Next50 Fund, we raised over $80,000! This was a tremendous fundraising effort and we sincerely thank the parents, grandparents, the community and everyone involved in achieving our fundraising goal. These funds are being used to enhance our school both inside and outside in order to continue to facilitate an enriching learning experience for our students. As we begin the new school year we will focus our fundraising efforts on priorities Ms. Christa has identified, in collaboration with the Board, that will further enhance the children’s learning environment and our school’s long-term sustainability.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are truly grateful for the outpouring of support from so many of our families.
